Check out the Cleveland Indians schedule below and grab your ticket today!

The Cleveland Indians have been around for over 100 years and are one of the original charter franchises of the American League. The other three original American League clubs that remain in the same city are: Chicago, Boston and Detroit. Although coming close in 2016 the Indians have not won the World Series since 1948.

The Indians play in the Central Division of the American League since 1994. They have won two World Series in 1920 and 1948 and six AL pennants in 1920, 1948, 1954, 1995, 1997, and 2016.

The fan base has always been a staple to the Cleveland community and Progressive Field. From 1995 until 2001, the team sold-out tickets for 455 straight games. It stood as a MLB ticket record until 2008 when the Boston Red Sox broke it. The Indians retired the number 455 in 2001. If you are looking at attending a Cleveland Indians home game at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH make sure to get you tickets early as they sell out often.

In the 2013 season, the Indians hired two-time World Series champion manager Terry Francona to manage the ball club. Turned out to be a great hire in that he got the Indians back to the World Sers just three years later.

In a historic transition, the Cleveland Guardians have emerged as the new identity for the city's beloved Major League Baseball team. Formerly known as the Cleveland Indians, this rebranding initiative represents a significant moment in the franchise's history, marking a commitment to inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and community engagement. Let's explore the evolution of the Cleveland Guardians and the impact of this transformative change on the city and its passionate baseball fans.

The Transition from Indians to Guardians:

Following years of discussions and consultations with stakeholders, the decision to retire the "Indians" moniker was made in response to concerns over its racial insensitivity and cultural appropriation. In July 2021, the franchise announced its intention to adopt a new name that would better reflect the values and aspirations of the team and its fan base. After an extensive selection process involving input from fans, Native American groups, and community leaders, the Cleveland Guardians were unveiled as the team's new identity in July 2021.

    Symbolism and Meaning:

The choice of the name "Guardians" carries deep significance for the city of Cleveland, paying homage to the iconic Guardians of Traffic statues that adorn the Hope Memorial Bridge, a prominent landmark connecting the east and west sides of the city. Symbolizing protection, strength, and unity, the Guardians statues have long been cherished symbols of Cleveland's resilience and spirit. By adopting this name, the baseball team seeks to honor the city's rich heritage while embracing a new chapter of inclusivity and progress.

    Community Engagement and Outreach:

As the Cleveland Guardians embark on this transformative journey, they are actively engaging with fans, stakeholders, and community organizations to ensure that the transition is as seamless and meaningful as possible. Through outreach initiatives, public forums, and educational programs, the team is fostering dialogue and collaboration with diverse voices to shape the future of Cleveland baseball. By listening to the concerns and aspirations of the community, the Guardians are striving to build a stronger, more connected fan base that reflects the values of unity, respect, and mutual understanding.

    Looking Ahead:

As the Cleveland Guardians prepare to take the field under their new identity, anticipation and excitement are running high among fans eager to support their beloved team in this new chapter of its history. With a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to embracing change, the Guardians are poised to write the next chapter in Cleveland's storied baseball legacy. As they continue to honor the past while embracing the future, the Cleveland Guardians stand ready to inspire and unite fans of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life in the pursuit of sporting excellence and community pride.

    MLB History

The first major league club was founded in 1869 in Cincinnati, OH and although two leagues existed they were seen as rivalries. Players would often jump from one team to another or one league to another. Before 1920, baseball was called the “dead-era” because of the lack of home run hit during a game. In 1919 the baseball world did not know if it would survive.  The World Series that year became to be known as the “Black Sox Scandal” because of the cheating and throwing of the games in an illegal manner.

Baseball grew in popularity in the 1920’s and went on to survive The Great Depression and World War II. Right after the war, the color barrier in baseball was broken when a player by the name of Jackie Robinson came along.

In the 50’ and 60’s the game started to expand to new cities and new stadiums were built. Artificial turf, that would forever change the game, was introduced in the 70’s and 80’s. The “dead-era” of the 1920’s was replaced in the 90’s by home runs ruling the game outcomes.

Today, MLB is composed of thirty teams: twenty-nine in the United States and one in Canada. MLB has the highest season attendance of any sports league in the world with more than 73 million spectators in 2015.

Major League Baseball teams are categorized into one of six divisions: the AL East, AL Central, AL West, NL East, NL Central, or NL West. Teams play 162 games each season and five teams in each league advance to a four-round postseason tournament that ends in the World Series (a best-of-seven championship series between the two league champions that dates to 1903).
