About Elton John
Elton John is one of the most recognizable and successful musicians of all time. A composer and singer born in 1947 in London, England who over his five-decade career he has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Elton John influence on the on music, popular culture and fashion industries is unparalleled. He is known for his flashy costumes and oversized glasses and his concert sell out almost instantly nationwide. He attended the Royal Academy of Music for four years and over the next few years, John transferred himself into a master pianist as well as a songwriter. Elton John was discovered by responding to an ad for Liberty Records. This partnership launched John's career. Elton John has written 30 albums since 1970 which include the hit singles "Tiny Dancer," "Benny and the Jets," "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word," and "Rocket Man." His single "Candle in the Wind 1997" sold over 33 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling single in the history of the UK and US singles charts. In 1994, along with Tim Rice he produced much of the soundtrack for the 1994 Disney classic Lion King. Other composing credits John has included Billy Elliot, Lestat, and Aida. John has won five Grammy Awards over his career, including two awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
