In 1969 the Kansas City Royals joined Major League Baseball as part of the MLB expansion. That year also saw the addition of the San Diego Padres, Montreal Expos (Washington Nationals), and Seattle Pilots (Milwaukee Brewers).
In 1971 the Royals moved to their current home, Kauffman Stadium. The park is a very loud MLB stadium and sells out games on a regular basis with a fanatic fan base.
The Royals have been to the World Series three times since the team’s conception. They have won the World Series twice, once in 1980 against the St. Louis Cardinals and again in 2015 against the New York Mets.
Playing in the American League Center Division against teams like the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, and Chicago White Sox the competition is fierce on a nightly basis.
Failing to make the 2016 MLB Playoffs, the Royals are looking to get back into playoff form in the 2017 MLB season.
