20 Years of Coldplay
It all started back in 1996 when Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland decided to start a band. Their first band name was Pectoralz, but they changed it to Starfish after Guy Berryman joined the band. Will Champion started drumming for them, and Phil Harvey signed on as their manager. The band didn’t become known as Coldplay until 1998, at which point they began releasing EPs.
They weren’t known worldwide though until they released the single “Yellow,” four years after Martin and Buckland first began forming their group, but that was just the catalyst for a stream of successes and awards that include 5 Billboard Music Awards, 8 Brit Awards, 3 Echo Awards, the 2005 Band of the Year Award from GQ, 7 Grammy Awards, and more. Overall, the band has been nominated for/received a whopping 271 awards.
Coldplay on Tour
In December 2015, Coldplay’s seventh album (A Head Full of Dreams) dropped. A new album means a new tour, and the band won’t disappoint. Their 2016 tour will cross the globe. At the end of March, the band will perform in Argentina, before traveling to Chile, Peru, Brazil, and Columbia. By mid-April they’ll perform in Mexico before heading across the Atlantic to Europe and the UK. July will see them in the United States, with performances planned in the following states:
- New York/New Jersey
- Illinois
- Massachusetts
- Pennsylvania
- California
- Texas
Whether or not you’ve seen Coldplay perform live before, you’re not going to want to miss this tour. Their live performances have been described as “performing their music with skill, feeling, and energy” (Consequence of Sound). The Telegraph, in a review of a 2014 concert, remarked: “It would be an understatement to say they left the crowd wanting more.”
