Golden State Warriors MVP Stephen Curry will need to sit out basketball games for at least the next two weeks due to a sprained MCL in his right knee. An MRI was performed on Monday, April 25. The image revealed that Curry had a Grade I sprain, which is the least severe type of sprain. He was injured in the April 24 game against the Houston Rockets. It was the fourth game in the series between the two teams.
Curry will be reevaluated in two weeks to decide whether or not he is ready to resume playing with the Warriors. Curry and the team’s general manager, Bob Myers, were somewhat relieved that the injury was not more serious. Curry sent out a tweet to thank his fans for their support.
Curry had already missed the second and third games of the Warriors’ series against the Rockets. He returned on Sunday for the fourth game but slid on a wet area of the court and hurt his knee. He returned after halftime but quickly realized he was in no condition to play and was ruled out for the rest of the game right after the start of the second half.
The other members of the team came together to sweep to victory after Curry left the court on Sunday. Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala played an outstanding second half, making several three-point shots after Curry left. The Warriors beat the Rockets with a final score of 121-94. Green said in an interview with ESPN after the game that the other team members are confident in their abilities but worried about Curry.
The Golden State Warriors recently broke an NBA record with 73 regular season victories. They are hoping to win their second NBA title in as many years.
The Warriors were leading 3-1 over the Rockets going into Game 5 of the series, which was played on Wednesday, April 27 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
