The Baltimore Orioles are based in Baltimore, MD. One of the American League’s eight charter franchises when the league was established in 1901 with President Ban Johnson, this franchise spent its first year as a major-league club in Milwaukee, WI as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, MO to become the St. Louis Browns.
The franchise officially moved to Baltimore for the 1954 season and adopted the historic “Orioles” name in honor of the official state bird of Maryland. Nicknames for the team include the “O’s” and the “Birds”.
The Orioles experienced their greatest success from 1964 to 1983 and have won a total of nine division championships, three World Series championships, and five Most Valuable Player Awards (third baseman Brooks Robinson in 1964, outfielder Frank Robinson in 1966, first baseman Boog Powell in 1970, and shortstop Cal Ripken, Jr. in 1983 and 1991).
The Orioles are also well known for their successful stadium, the trend-setting Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which opened in 1992 in downtown Baltimore.

In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased a failing franchise out of Baltimore and moved it to New York eventually giving it the name, New York Yankees. The team began under the nickname the Highlanders. It was not until 10 years later, when the team started playing their home games at the Polo Grounds, that they became known as the Yankees.
In 1918, the fate of the New York Yankees changed forever with one decision to purchase Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox for $125,000. For his time with the Yankees, Ruth is known as perhaps the greatest baseball player to ever lived. Yankee fans still celebrate him to this day!
Every season the Yankees are attempting to play for the World Series title. Although playing in the American League East is no cake walk having to play against Major League Baseball teams such as the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and, of course, their bitter rivals, the Boston Red Sox.
