Dave Chappelle and John Mayer will be performing together at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA.
The event – which the duo has dubbed “Controlled Danger” – will begin with a solo musical set by Mayer and a solo comedy set by Chappelle. The second half of the evening will feature both artists on stage together “for songs, stories, improvised dancing and more.”
Dave Chappelle is a stand-up comedian, screenwriter, producer, and actor from Washington, DC. Chappelle’s comic inspiration came from watching Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor in his early years. He is a graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
He began his career in 1993 by playing Ahchoo in the movie “Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men in Tights”. From there he began landing supporting roles in box office hits including “The Nutty Professor”, and “Con Air”. His first lead role was in the 1998 comedy film “Half Baked”, which he co-wrote with Neal Brennan.
In 2003, Chappelle became more widely known for his sketch comedy television series, Chappelle’s Show, which ran until his retirement from the show two years later. By 2006, Chappelle was called the “comic genius of America” by Esquire.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, John Mayer may be one of the country’s top guitarist and songwriters of all time. He constantly fills venues and arenas by fans from all over the world buying concert tickets to see the artist in action. After dropping out of Berklee College of Music in Boston a friend and him moved to Atlanta, GA to create Lo-Fi Masters and begin their musical journey. Mayer was discovered during a gig at the South by Southwest Festival an eventually signed with Columbia Records in 2001. After two short years, he released “Your Body Is a Wonderland” which went on to win him a Grammy Award for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance”. His career was off to a hot start.
Mayer began his career in the acoustic rock genre but eventually moved to more blues music playing with artists like B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. After releasing several more albums including the Grammy Award winning album, Continuum, Mayer had the number one grossing tour in 2009 by selling out venues worldwide.
After a vocal cord injury and media spats, Mayer took himself out of the public eye and retreated to Paradise Valley, MT where he began recording and writing on his own again. He has sold over 20 million records worldwide and has begun branching out in terms of genre and performances. In 2015 he began performing with Dead & Company which toured in support of the Grateful Dead music catalogs.
