Journey and Def Leppard are hitting the road together in North America in 2018 and kicking it all off on May 23rd in Hartford, CT.
Formed in 1977, Def Leppard is an English rock band that originated in Sheffield as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Joe Elliott, Rick Savage, Rick Allen, Phil Collen, and Vivian Campbell. Their 1983 album, Pyromania, which contained the single “Photograph” catapulted the band into international fame. The band began selling tickets to bigger and bigger venues. In 1987, Def Leppard released Hysteria which sold over 12 million copies in the United States. Over the years, the band has released mega hits like “Love Bites”, “Pour Some Sugar on Me”, “Hysteria”, “Armageddon It”, “Animal”, “Rocket”, and “Women”.
Journey was formed in 1973 in San Francisco, CA. It was made up of former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. Between 1978 and 1987 the band reached high success with singles like “Don’t Stop Believin”, which in 2009 became the top-selling track on iTunes. Journey’s album, Escape, the band’s eighth album, became their most successful and reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Journey’s concerts began selling out coast-to-coast and fans were flocking to find concert tickets as quick as they could. After a successful next couple of albums, the band broke up, however, they later regrouped with a series of lead singers.
In the summer of 2007, Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon began searching YouTube for a new lead singer. The band hired Filipino singer Arnel Pineda of the cover band The Zoo.
Journey has won two gold albums, eight multi-platinum albums, and one diamond album. They have had eighteen Top 40 singles in the U.S., six of which reached the Top 10 of the US chart and two of which reached No. 1 on other Billboard charts.
Journey has sold 48 million albums in the U.S., making them the 25th best-selling band. Their songs have become arena rock staples and are still played on rock radio stations across the world.
In October of 2016, it was announced that Journey would be among the nominees for induction into the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Journey lineup up for induction will be Jonathan Cain, Aynsley Dunbar, Steve Perry, Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Steve Smith and Ross Valory.
