The 2016 AFC Championship is looking to be one of the most exciting in recent memory, as long-time rivals New England Patriots and Denver Broncos are set to square off for the privilege of facing the NFC champions in Super Bowl 50.
The Patriots beat the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20 on Saturday to earn their fifth straight appearance in the AFC title game, overcoming a late-season slump and an 11-game winning streak from Kansas City. Led by quarterback Tom Brady’s two touchdown passes, the Patriots looked to be in fine form as they took on the favored Chiefs. “It’s pretty special to get back to another AFC championship game,” said Brady.
On the Broncos front, the team earned their trip to the championship with a 23-16 comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game appeared to be a lock for the Steelers until a fumble in the 4th quarter gave Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning all the opportunity he needed to turn things around. The Broncos boast the top-ranking defense in the League, and managed to force the fumble from Steelers running back Fitzgerald Toussaint before recovering the ball and scoring a touchdown, two point conversion, and field goal for the win.

Not sure if the AFC Championship is worth it? Consider a few facts:
- This will be the latest chapter in the famous Tom Brady/Peyton Manning Rivalry. Representing two of the most celebrated quarterbacks of their generation, Brady and Manning are maybe the only individual players in NFL history to have such a well-known private rivalry.
- If the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl, it will give them the opportunity to defend their victory in Super Bowl XLIX, becoming the first team to win back-to-back Championships since they themselves managed the feat in 2004-2005. The Patriots and Broncos are each one of only five teams to have won the Super Bowl two years in a row, and if they win this year the Patriots will be the first two have done it twice!
- While the odds in Vegas are for the Patriots to defeat the Broncos as 3.5 point favorites, the Broncos are known for their ability to convert an underdog status into a winning instinct. Not to mention, the Broncos defeated the Patriots in Week 12 of the regular season 30-24 – the Patriot’s first loss of the season. With home turf advantage to boot, the Broncos are sure to give the Patriots a serious run for their money.
If this isn’t enough to convince you that this is a historic game in the making, we don’t know what would be! See it in person with tickets from CapitalCityTickets.com.
